A Day Makes a Difference
The SHCH Mobile Clinic goes out five days a week to villages just outside Phnom Penh. They provide free medical care and medication to families who are not able to make the trip to the hospital. Forty percent of Mobile Clinic patients are children, like the little boy in this picture.
Members of the SHCH Home Based Care Team, who work with in the community with our HIV patients and their families, were in the village the same day and found this mother in tears, her son despondent from severe dehydration caused by diarrhea.
The boy was treated by the Mobile Clinic doctors, and the mother was given formula and educated on how to use it correctly. Later, the SHCH team took the child to get IV fluids at a government-run pediatric hospital in Phnom Penh. He is now doing well.
In developing areas, where clean water and access to medical care is scarce, diarrhea can easily lead to death, especially for children.
The SHCH Mobile Clinic is able to reach families who cannot reach us. A day really can make a difference.
